Helix Nebula

Helix Nebula spirals out of an earlier work, Revolvering Helices (2006, for strings). Voiced through the robot cellist, its figures return in altered light: circling, slipping, half-remembering themselves. The instrument’s mechanical poise lends each gesture a kind of acoustic looping, where repetition becomes transformation rather than return. Echoes fracture and rejoin; motions turn upon their own shadows. The piece offers only a suggestion of its lineage, as though every revolution concealed another beneath it.
