The ‘Robot Violinist’, a non-human entity at the intersection of performer and instrument, consists of three industrial robot arms playing a violin. The cell explores the specific and unique playing techniques offered by this system, underlines the idiomatic potential of the robot violinist and examines its anthropomorphic qualities and their scenographic implications. The ‘Robot Violinist’, along with its predecessor the ‘Robot Cellist’, rather highlights its individual and unique playing style, possibilities and techniques in front of traditional performance ideals, and is along with a reflexive compositional perspective, in search after unheard sounds and music.
